Union Tool, in business since 1908, was a manufacturer of gauges, rules, squares and machinists’ tools. The Millers Falls Company was especially interested in the operation’s combination squares—popular, mid-range products that were a good complement to its line of consumer hand tools. After the purchase, Millers Falls allowed Union Tool to operate with a great deal of independence, a situation that continued until the late 1960s when company management insisted on a greater integration with the larger operation.
