Description: A vintage photograph of the WW1 battlefield which bears the ink stamp of the Imperial War Museum to the rear. It shows an exploded BRITISH TANK and a number of casualties nearby. The location is not revealed but the annotation indicates the action took place in May 1918 during the GERMAN SPRING OFFENSIVE. The image has been produced using original BRITISH OFFICIAL PHOTOGRAPH negatives from the museum's archives, and the ink stamp to the rear contains a telephone dialling code '01' which dates the stamp to between 1958 and 1990. Therefore, it would seem that the photo is anywhere between 34 and 66 years old. Given the subject matter, and the effect it could have on morale, it is likely that the image was not circulated to the public during the War. Measures approximately 20cm x 15cm (8" x 6") Slight curled at the edges as with most unframed images of this age. Please see my other WW1 (and WW2) photos, maps, documents etc (Seller's Ref - LW0124)
