It should be used as a guide for the drivers and repair men who are responsible for the continued operation of the trucks. Keep it handy and refer to it often. The manual is divided into groups according to the major assemblies of the vehicle, such as—Engine, Rear Axle, Front Axle, etc. The location of these groups within the manual follows the Army Functional Group Coding System shown on opposite page. This system of Major and Sub-major groups permits correlation between all manuals, both Maintenance and Parts, so that reference from one to another is made easier. The heading corresponds to the Army major group and is further identified by a two-digit number. A sub-major group which covers a part of a main assembly is located within a major group, and is identified by a four-digit number. The first two digits indicate the major group and the second two digits the subassembly or sub-major group. For example: If information concerning the Manifold is desired, we would logically look for it under the Engine Group as it is a part of that main assembly. Reference to opposite page shows the number "0108" for Manifold. The "01" indicates the relative location of the Engine Group within the manual, while the "08" indicates the relative location of the Manifold write-up within the Engine Group. Wherever practical, the sub-groups are located within the main groups according to the above; however, this does not necessarily apply in all cases because of the logical sequence of repairs. In addition to the Functional Group Code Index, a group index is shown at the front of the book and a complete alphabetical index at the back of the book. All three are provided for quick, easy reference in locating the subject desired. The pictures are very usable and not washed out or too dark like many of the manuals I have seen that from copy machines. These are laser printed on 24 pound paper. Copy paper is generally 20 pound and you can feel the difference. It is bound with GBC plastic combs so that it will lay flat. If you would like I can, rather than bind with the plastic comb, three hole punch it for your binder. If you are collecting military manuals or looking for a prop to display at your next show, this is not the manual you want.
