Description: THE BATTLE OF EGYPT: The Official Record in Pictures and Map. Prepared for the War Office by the Ministry of Information First published 1943. Paperback (magazine-style), photographs on cover, 34cm x 24cm, 30pp. One of a series of Ministry of Information publications, The Battle of Egypt mixes text, annotated maps and dramatic photographic images to provide a comprehensive review of this part of World War II. The Ministry of Information's role was "to promote the national case to the public at home and abroad in time of war" by issuing national propaganda and controlling news and information. As such The Battle of Egypt, published just as the tide of the war was turning, gives an 'official' view of the conflict and reports on Allied victories in North Africa. Cover: photographic wrap, b&w photos to front and rear, title in white and maroon lettering on front. Maroon border along bottom edge, black and white lettering. Light scuffing along edges, particularly spine; 3cm closed vertical tear at base of spine. Moderate soiling and sunning, rubbed along top edge, surface loss due to sticker removal at top right corner on front. Contents: age-tanned and lightly soiled throughout. Pages intact Text bright and unmarked (no annotations, underlining, etc.). Numerous captioned b&w photographs throughout are clear and sharp. Staple binding is secure with minimal rusting, contents remain attached and binding is secure. Overall, the condition of this 80-year-old publication is good - binding secure, pages intact, some sunning and marking but the quality of the photographs and text overcomes any shortfall caused by ageing!
