Description: Stunning and Unusual, Large-Growing Air Plant - Tillandsia exserta Tillandsia exserta is a perennial epiphyte native to northwest Mexico near Guaymas. The plants habitat typically sees only 5 inches of rain per year, with most, if not all, happening during the summer. Exserta grows on outer branches of shrubs and cacti, usually in full sun. The leaves tend to be long and curly, giving it a whimsical appearance. With maturity, the leaves with form a medium to large ball shape. The plant will reach up to 10" wide by 8" high. SMALL size is 0"-2" high/wide *You will receive a plant similar to the one(s) pictured. Plants may or may not have dried end or broken leaves or be in bloom. Product is customizable with a wire hanger or grapewood piece for an additional fee if requested. --------------------------------------------- Foliage:Curly, green-toned leaves around 4-10" long, spreading from base. Leaves are covered with large, white-toned trichomes. Blooms: Inflorescence displays a long, deep red bract with violet-tinted flowers Fruit: No Zoned: 10-11 Environment: Low to medium humidity. It will usually tolerate indoor levels without difficulty. Grows best in 55-90 degrees F and will tolerate as low as 40 degrees for a very short period of time. Needs good air circulation. Light: Bright indirect or direct light. Try to avoid North-facing windows due to lack of sufficient lighting. In lower areas of light, this plant will wither and die. Outdoor growth is best for this plant if sufficient lighting is not available. Water: It is recommended to thoroughly mist every 5-8 days or soak for up to 10 minutes, once per week. Decrease watering if the humidity levels are higher. Gently shake the plant to dislodge water then place upside-down on absorbent material until the leaves are thoroughly dry. Soggy leaves or overly damp crown/base may encourage leaf drop and disease. Decrease water in winter. Fertilizer: This plant lives in a nutrient-poor environment and does not require as much fertilizer as other Tillandsia. Use a balanced fertilizer ever 2-4 months. It is advisable to use a epiphyte fertilizer mix or a general-purpose fertilizer diluted to 1/4 of the directions. Notes:This plant is not considered toxic, but should not be consumed.
