SPV'a Comprehensive Railroad Atlas Arizona & New Mexico Maps 2006 REVISED & UPDA

Description: RailroadTreasures offers the following item: SPV'a Comprehensive Railroad Atlas Arizona & New Mexico Maps 2006 REVISED & UPDA Steam Powered Videos Comprehensive Railroad Atlas of North America Arizona and New Mexico by Mike Walker Soft Cover REflections from the lights on some photos Copyright 1995, 2006 REVISED AND UPDATED 64 PAGES This fourth volume of SPV's COMPREHENSIVE RAILROAD ATLAS OF NORTH AMERICA covers the states of Arizona and New Mexico, two states whose modern networks belie a rich heritage of abandoned grades which remain in mute testimony to the boom and bust cycles of the lumber and mining industries. For completeness, the DRGW lines in southern Colorado and connecting lines in west Texas are included. The Atlas shows all currently operated common carrier, tourist and major industrial railroads along with abandoned routes. Electric interurban and street railroads are not shown except where they provided common carrier freight service or operate over or adjacent to a common carrier's right of way. Lines shown as narrow or mixed gauge are only shown as such when they are currently so laid or were at abandonment. Lines built as narrow gauge and subsequently rebuilt are shown as standard gauge. It should be noted that some lines shown as "in service" may see very infrequent use whilst some "abandoned" lines may, if the tracks remain in place, be reactivated for a special movement. Some abandoned trackage is simplified or omitted to clarify existing details. Every effort has been made to show all current operating locations as defined in railroad employee timetables. Letter and symbol codes adjacent to each location give an indication of what facilities may be found there. The approximate location of all "talking defect detectors", along with their identification, together with "Controlled Points" and SP's "Direct Traffic Control" blocks are shown as an aid to locating train movements which may be heard over the radio. Major bridges and tunnels (with length when over 1000') are also shown. The Atlas does not show roads as this would be confusing. For detail of road access to lines the DeLorme topographic atlas of Arizona is recommended whilst the Altamont Press Southwest Railfan Timetable provides useful additional operating data. The author and publisher remind readers that the contents of this Atlas are for information only and do not imply any right of public access. Railroads and much of the property surrounding them is private and should be respected as such. Whilst every care has been taken in the preparation of this volume, cross checking various published sources, company timetables, Official Guides etc., it is accepted that there may be some minor errors or omissions. In addition, the continuing process of mergers, regional and shortline spinoffs and abandonments within the North American railroad industry will eventually affect the accuracy of this Atlas. The information herein is compiled to mid 1995. At the time of preparation, final agreement on the merger of the Atchison Topeka & Santa Fe and Burlington Northern had not been reached. This is expected to take effect in late 1995 or early 1996. Line ownership is still shown as ATSF or BN but will become BNSF, Burlington Northern -Santa Fe, when the merger takes effect.
