Description: Old Smith Corona "Sterling" mechanical writing machine / typewriter. Cosmetically very nice / clean machine, just a return lever scuff, and some other minor imperfections... One of the springs that helps to shut the cover behind the platen on the return lever side is busted (pic 11). The other one is good, and the cover still "snaps" shuts fine. Lightly cleaned, new ribbon installed on the spools I found it with. Tested as best I know and all the functions seem to be working fine, it is running smoothly, and you should be able to start typing with it right away. Rubber is not bad for the vintage. Smells like a typewriter, but I wouldn't consider it overwhelming. No paperwork or key. Case isn't bad, has some scuffs, etc. It doesn't want to catch on those last couple of hooks, but shuts fine. I am enthusiastic about typewriters, but by no means an expert or professional repair person. Pictures of the typeface can be seen in the gallery as well as a tight shot of the serial number. All pictures were taken outside in natural light and are a big part of the description. Please review them carefully, use the zoom, and make sure this machine will work for you. Will be packed with lots of fill material to immobilize and pad as well as possible and shipped quickly via UPS ground. If you have any specific questions about this machine please ask. Thank you for viewing this listing.
