Once the gold is shaped we solder it in place around the gem. This is a tricky thing to do because there is a chance that the gem will break. If the gem breaks we have to cut the gold off and begin the process all over again. We are fortunate to be making jewelry for over thirty years so we make more than we break, but anyone can have a bad day.
