The history of Riviera Blue dates back farther than expected. The earliest mention of the name "Riviera Blue" I can find is in this ad for Colony's Nouveau pattern in the August, 1963 issue of China Glass & Tablewares. (Courtesy of the Glass Paper Fanatics.) Aug. 1963 China Glass & Tablewares (Courstey fo Glass Paper Fanatics) For those who may be confused by this, Lancaster Colony owned controlling interest of Indiana Glass by the 1960s. They were running the show. They marketed certain product lines made at the Indiana Glass factory as "Colony," and certain product lines as "Indiana Glass." Nouveau was a pattern made at the Dunkirk, Indiana factory--so we consider it Indiana Glass, despite the "Colony" brand name.
