Description: My sister and I both grew up furnishing, decorating and playing with dollhouses. I have always had a soft spot for tiny little things — ornate jewelry, diminutive artworks, anything you can see with a macro lens, and of course, miniatures. A few years ago I came across an enormous French Provincial dollhouse in a charity store that had been wildly abused and was missing its Mansard roof. I agonized, hemmed and hawed and ended up bringing it home after barely fitting it into the back of the station wagon. Now, here I am, buried in projects and the dollhouse has seen little improvement. In retrospect, it was quite quixotic of me to embrace such an undertaking. So, here we are, cleaning house and giving up stuff. While I can’t re-home the house (much too large to ship), I can re-home the furniture and kits. Below is a short history of the House of Miniatures kits we are offering: Beginning in 1976, the X-ACTO company began producing The House of Miniatures Collector Series, a monthly exclusive membership subscription which would provide its members about one miniature kit per month (vial mail delivery) from their well designed historical miniatures series. The company also offered the kits, along with other miniature products, for sale at specialty retailers and through a mail order catalogue. Their expansive product line included finishing kits, room boxes, hardware and other collectable miniatures. Despite these other diverse offerings, the company was always most appreciated for its commitment to historically accurate furniture. The company ceased producing this brand in the late 1990s when public interest in miniatures had significantly diminished. Because these are increasingly rare products that are no longer produced and difficult to replace, I feel it is important to offer information to buyers about a resource available to support kit owners/miniature makers in the process of creating their furniture. The House of Miniatures organization and website by Ferry Hill Studio provides all kinds of information about these kits as well as help with building and finishing them. Their mission statement is: “…to promote the venerable hobby of miniatures making. Crafting miniatures brings people of all walks of life together and sparks youthful joy in all ages. THoM seeks to remember and support the vintage brand of furniture kits by providing brand, historical, and crafting information, kits, finished pieces, parts, and instructions for everyone who still loves the brand. We appreciate the products and the memories attached, and want to help others enjoy miniatures as much as possible.” They can be reached at: thehouseofminiatures(dot)orgTHE Duncan Phyfe Lyre Back Chair (2) KIT: I LOVE these chairs! This kit includes the components for a pair of (this means two!) Duncan Phyfe lyre back chairs. If you take a gander at lyre back chairs on the internet, you will see how beautifully these miniatures have been rendered. Just beautiful from their legs to the iconic lyre design. (Chair dimensions: 2 3/4”h x 1 1/2”w x 1 3/4”d.) Also included: detailed instructions, parts identification sheet and tips for building and finishing. The instructions give confidence to beginners and advanced hobbyists alike and can serve as a guide for scratch building the same or similar designs. This kit is SEALED: This is a factory sealed, new (old stock) box in typical, shelf worn condition. The kit was manufactured between 1976 and 1994 and has never been opened. All House of Miniatures furniture kits are all 1:12 scale, precision cut, real wood models that are historically faithful and accurate. Kit assemblers can create the standard item or customize their furnishings using their own imagination and creative style. The wood products readily accept stains. The brass hardware (where provided) complete functional doors and drawers with the realistic sheen and warmth of real pulls, handles, etc. DETAILS: * 12th Scale * Life-Like Details * Real Wood * Fine Grain * Precision Cut * In-depth Instructions * Building & Finishing Tips Feel free to message us with questions.
