Description: Rare glass insert from 1939 NY World's Fair Goodrich Tire Ashtray. This item is the glass insert only, which is becoming increasing harder to find. A second photo shows the complete insert inside the tire, but this sale is the GLASS INSERT only. The 1939-1940 Worlds' Fair in New York was stunning display of business and cultural achievements in fun atmosphere that has not been replicated on that scale since. Major US manufacturers had their own buildings, displaying their products and manufacturing products. BF Goodrich was no different, and these tires were given out at the Goodrich Pavilion at the Fair. The glass insert is 3 1/2 inches wide and 1 1/8 tall. It has six depressions on the rim, designed to rest your cigarette, as this was an ashtray! The images are the Trylon and Perisphere, the central symbols of the Fair, with the Goodrich Tire pavilion in the foreground (though in real life they were in different parts of the fair). There is some chipping at the which obscures the "Goodrich Worlds Fair Exhibit Tires" name but the "New York 1939" are bold on the bottom. Though it went with a rubber "tire" this piece also display well by itself.
