Description: While a number of the most renowned film classics of the era have uninteresting, poorly designed movie posters, some of the lesser known films have the most dazzling, suspenseful and creative artwork featured in their movie posters. Such is the case here. This very rare vintage, original poster for the 1940 movie serial entitled “The Green Arrow” features stone litho artwork of exceptional tone, depth and color. Many one-sheet movie posters were printed by stone lithography in the 1920s,1930s and early 1940’s but, sadly, this exquisite, artisan process soon gave way to the easier and less expensive color offset printing. However, this poster’s cool design work contains some of the best, most thrilling artwork of any poster designed during the Golden Age of Hollywood. “The Green Archer” is the 12th serial released by Columbia Pictures. It was based on Edgar Wallace’s 1923 novel “The Green Archer” which was previously adapted into a 1925 silent serial of the same name. Director James Horne, who directed many of the memorable Laurel and Hardy shorts, used his skills to bring the mysterious green bedecked hero to life. Victor Jory stars as the crime-fighting modern Robin Hood who saves the day in 15 chapters of this rousing serial. The original, vintage and authentic One Sheet (27" X 41") size film poster was in good to very good condition before restoration was done and it was linen-backed. (Linen-backing a one sheet movie poster typically costs several hundred dollars which makes the sale price offered particularly reasonable.) This beautiful and vivid one sheet has had professional restoration to address tiny paper loss at the crossfolds and some tiny bits of paper loss on parts of the folds. The poster was pretty well backed, but you can see signs of the above defects and the restoration of the above defects. The poster had a few tiny bits of surface paper loss including on parts of several folds, with very minor border wear as you can see in photos. Overall, the strikingly dazzling and exciting stone litho artwork featuring the green-bedecked hero displays extremely well despite the minor imperfections. It is one of the most exciting finds that I have ever come across!
