Description: COLLECTORS! Pacific Fire is a very bright barked tree hailing from the Acer Circinatum family which is native to the Pacific Northwestern United States. Acer Circinatum is one of several non Asian species listed in the unspecific group called Japanese Maple. The spectacular fall color species Acer Circinatum is fairly stable genetically and so there are not lots of different clones available. Pacific fire is one of these few and is cultivated because of the glowing orange red winter bark on the first and second year wood. Older stems gradually become golden yellow. On older plants the look is yellow around the older core of the tree framed with fiery orange red newer growth towards the outer portions just like a fire might look. The foliage has some different characteristics than the species as well. It has lime green spring foliage that emerges with an orange blush. This turns bright yellow in the fall and looks beautiful attached to those fire red stems. It seems to not be as vigorous as the species, yet is not a dwarf. May get 8-10' after many years depending on culture. Great container specimen and could add beautiful texture to fern, hosta and perennial plantings as it enjoys similar morning sun conditions as well as full sun. It is indeed a Pacific Fire.
