Description: Rare 1952 Director Handbook SHOOTING STARS Traveling Small Town Local Cast Show Up for sale is a rare piece of Americana from the 1950s. It's the 1952 "Director's Daily Schedule" which is an instructional handbook for the director of a traveling show called SHOOTING STARS. The director had a formidable job every two weeks. He or she would travel to a different town (there is no mention of any assistants so it looks like the director did this Herculean task solo) and approach local merchants and the mayor to put on this big show. The director had to get townspeople to buy ads and donate prizes for a cutest baby contest. The townspeople would be cast to impersonate big stars of the day written in the script like Milton Berle, Fred Waring, Kate Smith and Roy Acuff. The director had to not only arrange all details of the show and advertising, contests and prizes, they also had to direct the show and rehearse the cast and basically hit up every merchant in town and get the cast and locals to sell tickets. It's very interesting to read--I can't imagine pulling this off. This copy belonged to Elizabeth Steele and she made notes. It's copyright 1952 by Empire Producing Company. There are 2 performances and instructions on the 13th day is locate next town and get there the cheapest way you can so you can start it all over the next day. It's really interesting to read and a nice piece of Americana from a bygone era.
