Rare! 1916 (P) Barber Quarter Off-Center Strike

Description: The Last Barber Quarter The Barber Quarter is a classic coin that jingled in pockets more than 100 years ago. Somewhat forgotten today, they were last struck 16 years before the creation of the first Washington Quarter appeared on the scene. Today, the last of those coins are now more than 100 years old but the story behind their creation still reverberates today. Thats because the coin itself may have come into existence due to one mans ego. One Submission Rises To The Top It all started back in 1892 when the United States Mint began making plans to strike a brand-new quarter. The Mints Chief Engraver at the time, Charles Barber, was part of a panel that evaluated more than 300 submissions from the public, including among them designs from some of the countrys leading artists and sculptors. At the end of the judging period, all the designs were rejected, that is, all but one. You guessed it; the lone design accepted was the one submitted by none other than Charles Barber. You might say he was the judge, jury and executioner for the new 1892 quarter design! Last-Year-Of-Issue Barber Quarters The Barber Quarter joined the Barber Dime and Barber Half Dollar coins in a series of coins all designed by the Mints Chief Engraver all featuring the same design of Lady Liberty. Struck from 1892 to 1916 in 6.25 grams of highly pure 90% fine silver, the Barber Quarter features a bust of Lady Liberty with a triple headdressa cap, a laurel wreath and a tiny coronet inscribed with her name. The coins reverse displays a proud eagle. This particular coin seems to be struck "off center", therefore, classifying it as a rare "error coin" and increasing it's value.
