Description: Noritake Nippon Cup & Saucer Hand Painted Violets Green Trim on White 1911-1918 NORITAKE NIPPON Exquisite Decorative DEMITASSE CUP & SAUCER, Hand Painted PURPLE VIOLET w/GREEN LEAVES on High WHITE Porcelain w/SMALL WHITE BEADING & DARK GREEN MORIAGE Trim, from Noritake Company in Noritake, Japan, circa 1911-1918 DESCRIPTION: The beautiful hand painted demitasse cup & saucer was produced in a cheerful display of purple violets by a talented artist using the high white of the porcelain. The design looks so eye catching. There is dark green moriage which is embellished with small white beads. The dark green moriage forms boxes to hold the violet sprays. There is also light green bands next to the dark green. In addition to the green moriage, there is white moriage. The handle of the cup was painted in the light green and embellished with the dark green and small white beading. CONDITION: While this set is classified as used, the condition is superb. There are no chips, nicks, cracks, rubbings, scratches or hairlines. See the photos to judge the condition for yourself. DIMENSIONS: The cup has a diameter of 2 1/2"" and a height of 2" with a capacity of 4 ounces. The saucer has a diameter of 4 1/8"" and a height of 3/4". HISTORY/MARKS: Morimura Bros. formed the trading and decorating company in 1876 which evolved into Noritake. Noritake Company has a rich history of producing fine bone china all the way from January 1, 1904 when the Nippon Toki Kaisha Ltd - the forerunner to the present Noritake Company - was formed in the village of Noritake, a small suburb near Nagoya, Japan. The first reported U.S. registry for a Noritake backstamp for importing is 1911. In Collecting Noritake A to Z Art Deco & More, David Spain shows that Noritake substituted Japan for Nippon in their backstamps starting in 1918. The green mark on these is attributed to the Noritake Company by Joan Van Patton ABC’s of Collecting Nippon Porcelain as mark #47 used 1911-1918.
