Description: MONTGOMERY WARDS CAFE PLATE & BOWL, 1950s/60s! Montgomery Wards (1872-2001) became our nations largest retail store, first in Chicago and then nationwide, until it was surpassed by Sears. It began as a mail-order business, producing the nations first catalog 'wish book.' Their business policy of 'Satisfaction guaranteed or your money back' won them many loyal customers over the years, until competition from other retailers forced them into bankruptcy in 2001. These china pieces come from the cafes that were located at some of the Montgomery Wards stores. The logo on the plates was used by the Montgomery Wards stores in the 1950s and 60s. Montgomery Wards became a business success long before competitors Sears or J.C. Penney were established. The bowl is 6 1/4 inches in diameter, while the bread plate measures 6 1/2 inches in diameter. Both are in great used condition. The bowl and plate appear to have been used very lightly with few signs of daily use. The plate on the under side has three tiny (less than 1 c.m. in length) rough spots where the enamel has been rubbed off, but otherwise has a new-like appearance. Payment within one day of purchase. See all photos as to condition of plate. Montgomery Wards is gone forever, but these china relics remain!
