A scion of the venerable Ritchies of Perry Count Kentucky, a famous ballad singing family, she collected and memorized over 300 folk ballads in her childhood. After college she became a teacher before achieving world fame as the living historian of folk music. She also was the prime mover behind the revival of the dulcimer as a performance instrument. Jean Ritchie is a legendary performer and scholar in the field of folk music, and her recorded works are eagerly sought by collectors. Note minor wear and scuffs on album sleeve.
