Description: 20 volumes. All are in excellent condition; they do not have the plastic packaging, but they look as if they were unwrapped and then just put aside. Some of them have the business card of the executive who gifted them still in the book. Most of them have some light foxing on the outside edges of the non-gilded pages. No shelf wear. Some of the pictures may have shadows on them or look a different color, but the books themselves do not have any damage; I am just a poor photographer. The complete blue set would have 25 copies; this listing contains 20 of them. These small books (about 5 x7) would look nice on a shelf or in a collection. Out of the 58 titles published between 1956 and 2011 a generous donor gifted us with 50. Because they all came together, I feel as if they were from the estate of someone who had some association with Donnelley for this period and that these had only one owner. We are posting them in three groupings by color, but this dark blue group consists of the following: 51.NOT INCLUDED195352.NOT INCLUDED195453.NOT INCLUDED 195554.Milford's Memoir by Louis Leclerc de Milford195655.Uncle Dick Wootton by Howard Louis Conard195756.The Siege of Detroit in 1763 Business card included195857.Among the Indians by Henry A. Rose1977 This is some background information on the series: Lakeside Classics, whose printing spanned the years from 1903-2019, was not only of the longest-running book series in American publishing, but possibly also the one with the most interesting history. R.R. Donnelly Company, a printing giant, created the series as a Christmas present for employees. The books, which measure 4.5 x 6.75 inches were beautifully printed and bound and originally each highlighted an individual experience in American history. However, as the company continued to expand, the volumes beginning with about 2000 began to sometimes reflect the company’s new global footprint. Also, every twenty-five years, the outside cover changed colors: first dark green, then red, followed by dark blue, dark brown, and finally, a color they called teal, but actually looks more like green unless it is under a strong light. The gilt text stamping on the spine and the front boards and the gold gilding on the top of each page also remained the same. One division of the company using the most promising of all the apprentices, spent most of the year selecting the article, editing it to fit the volume size, adding the Publisher’s Preface which included not only information about the selection but also an update on the company, and printing it. Interestingly enough, they were never sold to the general public. The number printed varied from year to year, but they were designed as gifts to valued customers, company employees, retirees, and shareholders who requested them. These are the reasons they have become sought after: quality production, limited production, and limited distribution.
