Description: The painting oil on canvas measure:21 1/2" by 27 1/2" painting;25" by 30" with the frame; The artist signed at lower right. The artwork in in very good condition. STA striking mid-century painting from Mexico, glowing with color, by the hand of listed artist JORGE EDGARDO RAMIREZ (sometimes followed by MARTINEZ), born 1940. The gray tan earth colors cement its mid-century heritage. The work glows from within, possessing an almost fluorescent quality. There does not seem to be a lot of biographical information on Ramirez; he studied at the Academia de San Carlos and at La Esmeralda. His imagery reminds of artist Ricardo Martinez de Hoyos (1918-2009), the works of whom sell for thousands at major auctions of Latin American art. This painting could use a freshening-up session with a restorer; it is generally soiled, has a few shallow scuffs, especially at left-most head, and could use varnish and so forth. Once cleaned it will hold its place with any fine Latin American twentieth century art. The artist is obviously quite underrated.
