Description: The best sounding EVM-15L you'll ever hear. Keep reading to find out why. This listing is for an original 8 ohm Electro-Voice EVM-15L series I speaker, manufactured the 48th week of 1981! We've replaced the aging original dustcap with a new one, but the cone/surround/spider/voicecoil is still original. This speaker has the 5-rib pressed paper cone with doped accordion surround. The connection terminals are the push-terminal binding post type, which does contribute to the speaker's tone. The original binding post were fastened with oxidized zinc screws (factory installed by EV) which give a glare and grain in the upper mids and highs while also causing an undesirable lack of cohesion with the bass. As one of our standard upgrades we do in our shop with these speakers, we've replaced the zinc screws from the terminal posts to new stainless steel screws! We also fully cleaned and ultrasonic cleaned and polished all of the terminal parts. The resulting tone was definitely an upgrade: the highs are smoother and extend higher without having any harshness or ice-picky highs, and the whole spectrum is very cohesive. There's also a nicer, woodier punch. This speaker can be turned up louder without being obnoxious or sounding "too loud"! This EVM-15L was used for many years in a TL-606 Thiele cabinet by a touring Tejano bass player, powered by a 1978 Fender Bassman 135 tube amp. These EVM-15L speakers take a lot of time to break-in, so if you're looking for a vintage hard rock tone right away, this is the speaker to get! Fitted with a ceramic magnet, EVM-15L is the successor to the popular SRO/15. This EVM-15L is rated for 200w RMS/continuous, and 400w peak (there's been some confusion over power ratings, but the testing methods changed during the transition between Series I and the Series II Pro Line). This EVM-15L has amazing projection without having harsh, ice-picky highs. It delivers great crunch and overdrive tones, but can still stay extremely clean in a soulful manner (these are popular with steel players). We've seen variants like this in early 80's Mesa Boogie bass/guitar cabs, and they're highly coveted speakers even today. There's a big difference in tone between the various series of EVM's, and we find that this Series I is, tonally, the most effortless and complex. It can get very nice EVH squeal-like tones, lots of bark/quack, and is very cohesive across the entire range. Aside from replacing the dustcap, cleaning the binding post hardware, and upgrading the terminal screws, the cone and surround have been gently cleaned with a soft-bristle brush. This EVM-15L is intended to be rear-mounted to the baffle. Be sure to adhere to mounting instructions by Electro-Voice. Shipping Info We will professionally pack this speaker in a tight-fitting box, and then double-box it into another with ample padding between it and the outer box (tape-reinforced). It will be shipped within 1 business day of payment cleared, via UPS or FedEx.
