Description: These 7.5” dessert or salad plates are marked CPO within a diamond, indicating they are from post-WWll Japan, when Japan was occupied by US military and are documentation of a specific time in history. Made from 1946-48, when raw materials were very scarce, the CPO stands for Central Purchasing Office. The military appealed to the CPO to provide the materials. Consequently these were only available on bases. I have attached a picture of very interesting information given about the CPO marking. The plates are hand-painted in a gold and orange tree and leaves design with a striking gold and black rim. These are beautiful plates. My amateur photos do not do the gold justice. They are in excellent condition - no chips, cracks or crazing; unusual given their age.
