Description: This cabinet card comes from the New York Gerster / Fox estate. Please check my other listings for more Cabinet Cards from this estate! I am not 100% sure who the boys in this photo are. The older boy is definitely either AUSTEN HOPPIN FOX (1877-1946) or his cousin AUSTEN FOX RIGGS (1876-1940). There are known photos identifying these two cousins, wearing identical outfits, and they look almost identical to each other. My *BEST GUEST* is that the older boy is Austen Fox Riggs and the younger is his brother Francis Behn Riggs (1881-1956) {no known childhood photos to compare to.} as the ages would potentially match and Austen Hoppin Fox had no younger brothers. This photo is not identified on the back. This stunning image shows the younger boy sitting upon a rock set piece and the older boy down on one knee behind him. The younger is in a velvet gown with pleats and a white scalloped collar and cuffs, and the older in a double breasted knee pants suit. Their hats are sitting on the rock. The photographer of this image: Fred Ulrich, 156 Bowery NY *Alice Fox (1885-1971) & brother Austen Hoppin Fox (1877-1946) were the children of the affluent New York lawyer Austen George Fox (1849-1937) and Alice Hoppin Fox (1857-1933)*Their cousin Austen Fox Riggs (1876-1940) was the son of Austen George Fox's sister Rebecca Fox Riggs and Benjamin C Riggs. He was a pioneer in the field of psychiatry and founder of the Austen Riggs Center. He has two known siblings, Rebecca Riggs (b. 1875) and Frances Behn Riggs (b 1881).*Alice would marry John Carl Arpad Gerster (1881-1874), one of the founders of The American Cancer Society, originally American Society for the Control of Cancer, which was first headquartered at his childhood home, 34 E 75th St NYC. {See my other listings for Gerster family photos} Antique photograph.
