Description: Normally, my husband was near obsessive with marking items with origin, type, cost etc. This bayonet/scabbard, however, had no tag or description. So, you get my best guess here but I will endeavor to provide correct measurements and any identifying marks. This bayonet is marked with a number of proofs as can be seen in the pics along with "WD", a crown/53E. The scabbard is marked with an arrow over WD over a crown over/39. I think this might be for a Martini-Henry rifle from the 1st half of the 19th century. However, this is purely a guess on my part. The specs for this bayonet are as follows: 21 1/2" 3 sided blade, 2.996" length of socket, .640 diameter of socket, length from blade to socket (throat) is .792 inches, overall length is 25". The bayonet blades shows bright and shiny, no significant dings, no rust or pitting. The socket is blue finish and remains bright and clean, no rust or pitting. This bayonet shows very little evidence of use. The leather and brass hardware scabbard shows high edge wear margins, nice mustard color patina to brass hardware, no breaks or holes, overall the scabbard grades VG- with minor finish scuff. Please look at pics closely and if anyone knows the model of this bayonet, I would appreciate the info. Update, a really nice fellow ebayer and knowledgeable bayonet collector informs me this is an 1895 pattern Martin--Enfield bayonet for the 303 cal. Enfield rifle.
