Description: This exquisite piece is a one-of-a-kind antique silhouette of Ben Franklin, matteed and framed in its original frame. The silhouette is small in size. The frame measures 7 1/8 inches in height and 6 1/16 inches in width. The item was produced in the late 1800s and is an original, handmade piece. It is difficult to see, but the name "Franklin" is written in pencil along the top edge of the reverse. It is pictured as clearly as possible in the last two photos. The silhouette is a beautiful representation of Ben Franklin, capturing the essence of the Victorian culture. The item is perfect for collectors of historical artifacts and silhouettes. It would make a unique addition to any art collection and is a true gem for those who appreciate antique American art. This piece has been very well cared for over the years. The frame is in very good condition overall, showing just a few small chips and marks. It looks like the glass shows moderate light marks. Though, I'm now sure that isn't just lint from the lace. As you can see from the close-up photo, there is quite a bit of "fuzz." That lint is on both the interior glass and on the silhouette itself. The item would benefit from a deep cleaning. However, I don't want to disturb the framing, so I will leave the cleaning to you. The lace shows moderate aging/discoloration, but it too is in very good condition. The material on the back of the frame is some kind of faux leather paper. It is rather fragile. The piece must be handled with care. There are no chips or cracks in the glass. There are two modern silver metal pushpins with a string attached between them. It serves as very simple hanging hardware. It's what I like to call the MacGyver method of hanging art.
