Description: This is a superb porcelain etui or sewing case I am fairly sure was made by Sevres in France about 1875. The quality of the figural scenes are outstanding! The piece is hand painted with two different designs on the front and the back, each with a man and woman in an outdoor pastoral setting. In addition, the lid has another two smaller figures hand painted, one of them playing l lute. Numerous flowers are placed around these figures to complement the settings. The top and bottom are joined by an embossed brass rim that has a small clasp that opens the hinged lid. The interior has some age discoloration but there are no cracks chips or damage to the piece and the hinge works well. Just under the rim there is a very faded message written in script, but I could not make it out. I believe the words are French and have included photos if you want to take a guess at what it says. The bottom has a very faint blue makers mark that, I believe, is the faded Sevres "LS" with crown mark, but it is very faded and you will need to judge for yourself. Measurements: 4" x 1.75" x 1.25"
