Description: Normal 0 false false false EN-US X-NONE X-NONE Up for auction is this $5.00 Series 1899 Silver Certificate, otherwise referred to as a $5.00 Onapapa / Indian Chief Note. This note features the obverse vignette “Ta-to-ka-in-yan-ka”,and was engraved by G.F.C. Smillie. This is the only issue of U.S. paper money for which a Native American was selected as the central feature. The $5.00 Series 1899 Chief Onapapa Note is considered by many to be one of the “Most Beautiful” United States Banknotes that was ever produced! It garners the interest of Both Paper Money Collectors and Non Collectors as a note they covet to own! This note has light even dirt from years of circulation evenly spread out on both sides of the note. The margins are full and even all around. Lastly, I see 5 pinholes in the note, two tiny pinholes in the Chief’s right cheek and the other three in the lower left margin of the note. I marked the problem areas in orange. This note has good color and contrast for the grade! I would grade this note as a solid Fine or a bit better. Please look at the scans carefully and judge the grade and quality of this note for yourself before bidding. This note should appeal to the budget minded collector, who wants to own an example of this design without spending $1250 - $1500 for the next grade higher. There were 11 different signature combinations / FR#’s for the $5.00 Series 1899 Silver Certificate / Onepapa / Indian Chief Note. This note is a FR #271, the very first of the 11 combinations.
