Description: Brand New 1955 Corvette - Vintage Racing Club - No Damages or Creases Chevrolet debuted its small-block, 195 hp V8 in 1955, and this powerful engine soon made its way into the Corvette. Initially, the 1955 V8 Corvettes were paired exclusively with the mandatory-option Powerglide automatic transmission, similar to the few six-cylinder models produced. However, a new three-speed manual transmission was introduced later in the year for V8 models only. Exterior color choices were expanded to at least five, complemented by at least four interior color options. Additionally, soft-tops were available in three different colors and materials. Despite these enhancements, only 700 Corvettes were built in 1955, making this model year the second rarest after 1953. Very few six-cylinder models were produced, and all documented examples featured automatic transmissions. Notably, the "V" in the Corvette emblem was enlarged and colored gold to signify the V8 engine and the new 12-volt electrical systems, while six-cylinder models retained the 6-volt systems used in 1953-1954. In 2018, the tooling for the model was updated, with the front grille now integrated into the body rather than being a part of the base, reflecting a more streamlined and cohesive design.
