This particular example, serial number 1418538, dates to 1949-1950 and features the following: Key Features:Model: Simple CalendarReference Number: 21302Serial Number:1418538Year: 1949-1950Case Material: Stainless SteelMovement: Caliber 291, base caliber 291Dial: Silvery-white rhodium color, maintaining its vintage charm, original dial, never painted, never re-touched.Indices: rare golden “drops“ and Art Deco “12” and “6” numerals Complications:Two Counters:Left counter: Continuous secondsRight counter: DateApertures:Day of the week (12 o'clock)Month (5 o'clock) The Simple Calendar by Universal Genève represents the brand's innovative approach to blending functionality with elegance. The design uses two counters to evoke a chronograph style while offering practical annual calendar complications. This unique configuration ensures the watch stands out in both form and function. The Simple Calendar by Universal Geneve was introduced in 1943 and is the company's response to a growing demand for more complicated watches. By using two counters, Universal managed to maintain the aesthetic of a chronograph and give the annual calendar a more interesting look. The left counter displays continuous seconds, while the right one is for the date. Furthermore, the watch features two apertures: at 12 o'clock, we find the weekday, and at 5 o'clock, the month. Operation ( please see picture with diagram ) C1 ( to be set by pusher P1 ). A wicket showing the days of the week C2 ( regulated by advancing the hour and minute hands beyond midnight. If regulating covers several days, one can turn the hands back to o'clock after each jump, thus shortening the operation. A special wicket C3 indicates months P3 and is adjustable with pusher P3.While the calendar С3 mechanism is automatic, the month must be changed on the first day of the month by pressing pusher P3. Five times a year, the date indicator C1 ( for the months containing less than 31 days ) must also be adjusted. The calendar should not be adjusted between midnight and 3:00 AM. Disclaimer: Condition and ModificationsPlease note that this watch, while an authentic and exceptional timepiece, cannot be considered 100% vintage original due to the following modifications and changes over its lifetime:Polished Case: The watch case has been professionally polished, resulting in losing its original factory condition.Replaced Pushers: The original left-side pushers were not functional, so a professional watchmaker in Philadelphia, PA, replaced them during the 2018 full overhaul, calibration, and polishing.Case Back Cover Discrepancy: The case back cover currently displays the engraved number "212161," which does not match the watch's model number "21302." I believe the original case back cover was replaced before 1996, when I acquired the watch in Copenhagen, Denmark. While these modifications do not detract from the watch’s functionality or its historical charm, potential buyers should be aware of these details to make an informed decision. This watch has been meticulously maintained and represents a unique piece of horological history. This clock is working properly, keeping good time, and all functions are working correctly, but it is sold as-is. Please refer to the photos for finer details; they are part of the description. Last service: March 2018; not timed or regulated recently. Shipping and Handling: Carefully packaged to ensure safe delivery. Strictly NO returns, NO international shipping, sorry.
