Description: This fantastic card was issued by the THOMAS H. HALL Tobacco Co. as an insert premium in their brands of BETWEEN The ACTS and BRAVO Tobacco and Cigarettes starting in 1880 and running through to 1892. These cards are from a scarce series of over 500 cards entitled , “Actors, Actresses, Athletes, and Presidential Candidates” The series is listed as series N342 in Burdick’s American Card Catalogue. Burdick also broke the series down into several sub-series based on the different design variations to the cards. Cards from the N342 series are considered to be the earliest cards issued with tobacco and cigarettes. The front of the card features a Victorian Theater Actress images in an oval with a decorative border featuring the Actresses name and advertising for Between the Acts Cigarettes. The back of the card also features advertising for Hall Cigarettes. This card features Carrie McHenry The Lithography for the card was done by Heppenheimer and Maurer of New York. The Card measures 3 1/16 inches by 1 5/8 inches approximately. The card does have some corner and edge wear, and some areas of discoloration but is free from major creases. I think it displays nicely I have scanned the card fairly large for you to be able to judge condition for yourself.
