Description: 1836 GJ Ecuador 2 reales graded NGC AU53. It is the second highest graded in the NGC census. Coin has been double struck on both the reverse and obverse, and the double strike can be clearly seen in the legends and mountains. Also, there is no spacing in "PODER EN LA CONSTITUCION", and the "N" in "CONSTITUCION" appears separated from the "O". The eyes, nose, and mouth can all be seen on the sunface. Although the strike on the sunface appears light, it is most likely from obliteration caused by the second strike. Coin has great luster that covers the coin on both sides...unusual for an AU grade on this type: A very interesting and beautiful coin! Early republican Ecuadorean reales are rare above the VF grade. Fewer than ten examples of this type (in all dates) have been graded higher by NGC. Coin can be seen on the NGC website, so authenticity of the holder can be verified: NGC VERIFY * free shipping in the USA *
